The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 414 people in separate operations across the capital over the past 24 hours as part of its ongoing efforts to control crime and maintain public safety. During the same period, 59 cases were registered at different police stations in connection with various incidents. The DMP released the information on Monday, October 5.

Police said teams from local police stations and the Detective Branch (DB) carried out the operations in different parts of Dhaka. The drives were conducted based on information regarding suspected criminal activities and cases under investigation. Several items believed to be associated with criminal offenses were also recovered during the operations.

Mirpur recorded the highest number of arrests, with 81 people taken into custody. Wari followed with 66 arrests, while 61 people were arrested in Tejgaon. Police arrested 54 people in Motijheel and 48 in Uttara. In other areas, 35 people were arrested in Lalbagh, 28 in Ramna and 25 in Gulshan. DB teams separately arrested 16 people.

According to the DMP, police recovered different types of evidence during the operations. Narcotics, illegal weapons and ammunition were among the seized items. Officers also recovered a number of mobile phones and other materials that may be relevant to ongoing investigations.

Police said the operations were part of their routine crime-control activities rather than a single coordinated drive. Officers are regularly monitoring areas considered vulnerable to criminal activity and taking action based on available information. The objective is to identify suspects, arrest individuals wanted in different cases and increase law-enforcement presence in areas where crime risks are considered higher.

One person was also rescued during the operations, according to police. Several mobile phones and other items connected to different incidents were seized and are now being examined as part of the investigations. Police said the recovered materials could provide additional information about the cases concerned.

Law-enforcement activities have continued in various parts of Dhaka, including residential neighborhoods, commercial areas, markets and major roads. Police units are also monitoring local crime trends and identifying areas where additional patrols or targeted operations may be required.

DMP officials said anti-crime operations are conducted regularly throughout the capital. Information received about suspected criminal activities is checked before legal action is taken. Where evidence supports allegations, police proceed according to the applicable law and initiate the required legal process following an arrest.

Legal proceedings against those arrested are currently underway, the DMP said. The specific allegations and the involvement of each individual will be established through investigation and subsequent judicial proceedings. An arrest itself does not establish guilt, and the final determination will be made through the appropriate legal process.

Police are also increasing patrols and surveillance in an effort to strengthen public security. Operations are being carried out against a range of offenses, including robbery, theft, drug-related crimes, fraud and other unlawful activities.

Authorities have advised members of the public to avoid taking direct action against anyone they suspect of criminal involvement. Instead, residents have been encouraged to inform the police or contact the appropriate law-enforcement authorities when they observe suspicious activity or encounter an incident.

The DMP said such operations will continue in different areas of the capital. Police intend to maintain regular surveillance and strengthen law-enforcement activities where necessary to reduce crime, protect residents and preserve public order.
