According to police, the arrested individuals are Shahid, 25, son of Shahin Alam of Sandippara in Raikhali, Chandraghona Police Station area of Rangamati District, and Robiul Hossain Sumon, 24, son of Shahjahan, from the Brickfield Ferry Ghat area of Ward No. 7 in Chandraghona Union.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Rangunia Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Zahir Uddin. Police said they launched the operation based on confidential information and detained the two young men on suspicion of selling drugs.
During a search, officers recovered yaba tablets from the two individuals. According to police, 51 tablets were recovered from one suspect and 29 from the other, bringing the total number of seized tablets to 80.
Local sources said concerns have been raised over drug trading in and around the Chandraghona Ferry Ghat area. However, whether other individuals are involved in the alleged drug trade in the area remains to be established through investigation by the relevant authorities.
Local residents hope that continued anti-drug operations will help control the sale and distribution of illegal drugs in the area. They believe that regular surveillance in crowded locations, ferry terminals and surrounding important areas could contribute to preventing drug-related crimes.
When contacted, Rangunia Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Zahir Uddin said the two individuals had been arrested with yaba tablets and a case had been filed against them under the Narcotics Control Act. Following the completion of the necessary legal procedures, they were sent to jail through the court.
The operation is being viewed as part of ongoing efforts to combat drug-related activities in the area. However, allegations involving drug-related offences must be established through investigation and the judicial process. Alongside law enforcement efforts, public awareness and cooperation from local residents may also play an important role in preventing drug-related crimes.
