Police have arrested a 32-year-old man named Abdul Motaleb, a mason, over allegations that he raped a 13-year-old girl and caused her to become pregnant in Bhaluka upazila of Mymensingh. According to media reports, the accused is the girl’s father. The girl’s mother has filed a case in connection with the incident. Reports state that the accused was subsequently sent to jail through the court process.

The incident reportedly took place at a rented house in the Kathali area of Bhaluka upazila. According to published reports, the accused had been living in a rented house in the area and working as a mason. His ancestral home is reportedly in the Kamargaon area of Tarakanda upazila in Mymensingh.

The family has alleged that the girl was subjected to repeated sexual abuse. The matter reportedly came to light after changes in her physical condition raised concerns. Following the emergence of the allegations, police took action and initiated legal proceedings.

According to published reports, the girl had been working as a domestic worker at a house in the Kalabagan area of Dhaka. Her father reportedly brought her from Dhaka to the Kathali area of Bhaluka on May 22. Approximately one month later, on June 25, she was reportedly taken back to her workplace in Dhaka.

The family alleged that the accused took advantage of the girl being alone and subjected her to abuse while she was staying in Bhaluka. Later, the landlord of the house where she worked in Dhaka reportedly became suspicious after noticing changes in her physical condition. When the girl was questioned, she allegedly disclosed what had happened to her, according to media reports.

After learning about the allegations, the landlord reportedly called the girl’s parents. They were subsequently taken to Kalabagan Police Station in Dhaka, according to published reports. The reports also claimed that the accused initially admitted to the incident. However, the allegations must be examined through the legal process, and the court will determine the matter based on the evidence presented.

Subsequently, the police concerned reportedly transferred the accused to Bhaluka Model Police Station. The girl’s mother filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. Police then arrested Abdul Motaleb and produced him before the court. Media reports state that he was subsequently sent to jail through the judicial process.

Ensuring the girl’s physical and psychological well-being, access to medical care, and a safe environment is particularly important in this case. When a minor is subjected to abuse, protecting the child and providing the necessary support are important responsibilities of the family and the relevant authorities.

In cases involving allegations of violence or abuse against children and adolescents, prompt legal action must be accompanied by measures to protect the victim’s privacy. News organisations should avoid publishing a victim’s name, photograph, address, educational institution, or any other information that could reveal the child’s identity.

Such incidents can also cause significant distress to the families concerned. During an investigation, it is important to prevent social pressure on the victim, avoid blaming the child, and ensure that the child has the opportunity to live in a safe and supportive environment. The statements of the individuals involved and the available evidence must also be carefully verified.

Under Bangladeshi law, allegations of rape and child abuse are treated as serious offences. In such cases, investigators collect evidence and submit relevant materials through the appropriate legal procedures. The court considers the evidence and applicable law before reaching a decision. Therefore, an arrest alone does not mean that an accused person has been found guilty by a court.

In the Bhaluka case, the allegations against the accused should continue to be described as allegations unless and until they are established through the judicial process. Any new information about the investigation, medical findings, or subsequent court proceedings should be verified through reliable sources before being reported to readers.

Families, employers, local administrations, and law enforcement agencies all have important roles to play in protecting children. If a child or adolescent is suspected of having experienced abuse, their safety should be prioritised, and assistance should be sought promptly from the police or the relevant child protection authorities when necessary.

The arrest in connection with the alleged abuse of a minor in Bhaluka, Mymensingh, highlights the importance of ensuring the safety and protection of children. Any further developments in the investigation or judicial proceedings should be verified through reliable sources and reported responsibly.
